2022 Inter-Hall Games Ends on a High
The 2022 Inter-Hall Games organised by the University of Ghana Sports Directorate has come to an end with very exciting performances from the participating Halls. The Halls participated in Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Football, Goalball, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.
Performance
The Halls showed from the onset the desire to compete for laurels. The motivation was the desire to be selected into the various University of Ghana Teams for upcoming regional leagues, national and international competitions.
Akuafo Hall at the end of the Games proved to be the dominant Hall in both male and female categories. Out of twenty one (21) gold certificates in both categories, Akuafo clinched thirteen (13). Valco Hall came second with two (2) gold certificates with four other Halls winning one (1) gold certificate each.
Mr. Henry Nii Sackey, Head Coach, UG Sports Directorate
Mr. Henry Nii Sackey, Head Coach and Coach in charge of Volleyball remarked that the Inter-Hall Games lived up to the hype and excitement associated with the Games. He commended the Sports Secretaries for the organisation of their teams and the leadership they showed. Mr. Sackey mentioned that some new talents were unearthed during the Games especially in Basketball, Football and Volleyball.
The Head Coach continued that even though some athletes had been in camp earlier, the Inter-Hall Games gave the coaches the opportunity to see them in competitions to validate their performance at training. He bemoaned the clashes that happened between Mensah Sarbah Hall and Commonwealth Hall during the semi-final volleyball match which he condemned unreservedly. He however, indicated that the coaches watched athletes from these halls play during the start of the Games and have taken note of the good athletes before they were banned from participating in the Games.
Selection into University Teams
Some athletes have been selected into the UG Teams to represent the University at the 10th All African University Games in June, 2022 at Nairobi, Kenya.
