UG ATHLETE TO REPRESENT GHANA AT AFRICAN GAMES

University of Ghana’s 100 meters sensation Benjamin Kwaku Azamati will represent Ghana in the 100 and 4x100 meters in the African Games in Rabat, Morocco scheduled for 16th August to 3rd September, 2019.
 
Benjamin Azamati currently a level 300 student reading Bachelor of Science in Marine Science has represented the University and Ghana in a number of competitions the recent one being the World Universities Games in Napoli, Italy.
 
Springboard for World Championship
Azamati is currently the fastest locally based Ghanaian athlete with a time of 10.32 seconds and is relishing to make the time of 10.01 seconds at the African Games which will qualify him for the World Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar in September under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federation.
 
Benjamin who is ranked the 4th best athlete for Ghana will be joined by Joseph Amoah (10.01 seconds), Sean Safo-Antwi (10.20 seconds) and Martin Owusu Antwi (10.45 seconds) for the 4x100 meters event in Rabat. The three are based in the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
 
Benjamin Azamati remarked that he desires to win a medal in Rabat and ultimately qualify for Doha.
 
“I am privileged to represent Ghana at the African Games in Rabat. It has been a tough season for me where I had to compete in a number of competitions to make the time to be selected and also excel in my academics. The desire and commitment is to qualify for the World Athletics Championship in Doha. Together as a team we will do our best to represent Ghana well in Rabat by winning some medals.”
 
Disciplines
Team Ghana will participate in Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Beach Volleyball, Cycling, Football, Fencing, Judo, Karate-Do, Taekwondo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Weightlifting.
 
Some athletes of the Athletics Team will depart Accra for Rabat on Friday, 16th August, 2019.
