UG Debate Team to Commence Camp Ahead of National Debate Championship
The University of Ghana Debate Team will commence camping on 26th September, 2022 ahead of the 8th Ghana Universities Debate Championship (GUDC) to be hosted by the University of Ghana (UG) from 10th to 17th October, 2022.
The championship, dubbed Wɔgbɛ jɛkɛ 2022 makes a return to UG again after the maiden edition eight years ago. UG will be raring to defend the debate category trophy won last year at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani.

A total of thirty-two (32) students representing twenty-two (22) speakers and ten (10) adjudicators have been selected to represent the university. These students excelled in various tournaments during the academic year. Notably among them were the Freshers' Debate Championship, the Invitational Debate Championship with Lancaster University, the Heritage Debate Championship, the SRC Debate Championship, and the Vice-Chancellors Debate Championship.

Mr. Lawrence Nii Kotey Neequaye, an alumnus and former President of the UG Debate Society and currently the coach of the Team, indicated that selection was done based on merit, taking into consideration the tournaments and activities during the academic year. He envisages that the two weeks of camping will afford his team to focus, hone their talents, and further prepare towards putting in a stellar performance at the championship.
"The stakes are high, and the team understands the set objective. It is nothing short of excellence, defending the trophy and hoisting the flag of UG high as we celebrate our 75th anniversary. "
The Team will engage in friendly tournaments with other institutions both in person and online during the camping period.
The Championship themed "Thinking Global, Acting Local; Celebrating Excellence while Shaping the Future" will have nine (9) other tertiary institutions competing for the coveted trophy. These institutions are Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University for Development Studies, University of Cape Coast, University of Energy and Natural Resources, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Accra Technical University, Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, and Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies.
