UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ATHLETICS TEAM DAZZLES AT NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The University of Ghana Athletics Team made a big impression at the National Open Championship organized by the Ghana Athletics at the Cape Coast Stadium. The meet was the third circuit games organized by Ghana Athletics in 2023. It saw athletes from all over the country participating. Team UG won laurels in Javelin (Women), 1500m (Men) and Long jump (Men).

Rejoice Agbewodie, a second year Diploma in Public Administration student and current record holder of UG’s Discus and Javelin disciplines continued her stellar performance as she won the Javelin event with a distance of 47.02m. This shatters her own personal record of 44.94m which she set at the just ended UG @ 75 Inter-Hall Games. She also won silver in the Discus with a distance of 39.81m.

Maxwell Peterson Wordui, a Level 200 BA in Sports and Physical Culture student also won the Long Jump event with a distance of 7.32m. This trumps the 7.27m jump he made at the Ghana Athletics Trial on 13th May, 2023 at the Paa Joe Stadium, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

The Coach of University of Ghana Athletics Team, Emmanuel Bruce Okine, commented as follows:
“I was pleased with the performances of the athletes so far considering that the Team was in a rebuilding phase. He however added that there was more work to be done in the area of optimizing the performances of the athletes”.
