UG Alumnus Hopeful of Tennis Gold at 2022 FASU Games

The University of Ghana alumnus and 2015 Davis Cup Captain for Ghana, Japheth Bagerbaseh has expressed hope in the Tennis duo representing the University of Ghana to win gold at the 10th Africa Federation of African Universities Sports (FASU) Games scheduled from 6th to 10th June, 2022 at the Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya.
Japheth who represented UG at the 9th edition of the FASU Games in Mekelle University, Ethiopia and won gold medals in men singles and mixed doubles was impressed with the level of performance by Emmanuel Wettey Akwanor and Vanessa Kabukie. He advised them to eschew all forms of complacency heading into the Games.
“I believe they can achieve what we did four years ago. The competition at that level is very intense and they need to be ready physically and mentally. Their concentration and focus should be at 100% throughout their games. They have about a week to travel and they can still improve upon their performance.”

The former number one Tennis player for Ghana beat Emmanuel Wettey 6-3, 6-3 in the men single friendly match on the UG Tennis court before loosing to Emmanuel Wettey and Vanessa Kabukie in the mixed doubles 6-4,7-6.

In the women’s single match Vanessa Kabukie beat her teammate Lawrencia Aghoghorbia 6-3, 7-5.
The Tennis Coach at the Sports Directorate, Mr. Philip Gbedife looked satisfied after the friendly match. He was in high spirits of Emmanuel and Vanessa winning medals in Kenya adding that the friendly game has served the purpose of giving the duo a foretaste of what lies ahead.
The UG contingent departs Accra on 5th June, 2022 for the 10th FASU Games.
