UG Athletes Bag Four Medals In Nigeria
The University of Ghana athletes who represented Ghana at the Annual International Invitational Relay event at Benin City, Nigeria bagged four medals in 4x100m, 4x100 mixed relay, 400m and 200m.
The UG Relay Team made up of Saminu Abdul-Rasheed, James Dadzie and Solomon Kweku Hammond and Barnabas Agerh (University for Development Studies, Tamale) finished second in 4x100m with a time of 39.60 seconds.

James Dadzie in his individual event in 200m, run his personal best of 21.06 seconds coming second behind Nigerian Alaba Olukunle Akintola who won gold with a time of 20.50 seconds.
In the 4x400m mixed relay, UG’s athlete Daniel Yaw Mantey Otibo won silver and bronze in 400m.
Speaking on behalf his teammates, James Dadzie highlighted the experience they have gained and positive impact it will have on their performance in future competitions.
“The experience we garnered running with some foreign based athletes is very valuable to us as upcoming athletes. We picked up some skills and lessons as we interacted with these athletes after the event. We hope to build on our personal bests and performance to compete at the very top of athletics championships in the future.”
The Head of Athletics at the Sports Directorate, Mr. Emmanuel Bruce-Okine impressed by the performance of the UG Team stated that with a little push at training and hard work these athletes will be ready to compete at the world stage.
“I am impressed with their performance. These athletes are more into scholastic sports and just within a month of exposure on the African scene they have made impressive times. With more work at training and remaining focus on what lies ahead, they should be competing at the world stage for UG and Ghana.”
