2020 GUSA GAMES LOC INTERACTS WITH GUSA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2020 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games dubbed LEGON 2020 held a successful interaction with the Executive Committee of GUSA ahead of the Games in January 2020.
 
The objective of the meeting between the LOC and GUSA, was for the former to report on progress of work pertaining to the organization and infrastructure for the Games and also for GUSA to clarify issues and points for the LOC to help smooth coordination of work.
 
LEGON 2020 to contribute to Community Development
The Director of Sports and also the Co-Chairperson for the LOC, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu explained the various strategies and structures that have been put in place to ensure participating universities have a memorable experience on the campus of University of Ghana. Dr. Bitugu added that some innovation and novelties such as seminars and workshops for athletes and experts in the sports industry have been incorporated in the programme to build capacity to improve their areas of operation.
 
He remarked that the Sports Directorate will use hosting of the games to contribute to the University’s Strategic Plan especially priorities 3 and 9 (Internal and External Stakeholders respectively) through Sports for Development activities that will take place prior to the Games as part of the legacy of LEGON 2020.
 
“We are happy this meeting has happened so both parties are abreast with the progress of work. Also as an LOC, we want to host a memorable Game which will not only benefit the university community but also communities around UG and participating universities. This we believe will add to the experience of athletes and fans and the legacy of LEGON 2020.”
 
GUSA Executive Committee Commends LOC
Dr. Charles Domfeh, Acting President of GUSA, commended the LOC and UG for the commitment and innovation they have shown in hosting the GUSA Games in January 2020. He remarked that, GUSA will continue to offer support to UG as host institution to ensure that quality athletes are churned out at the tertiary level to compete for Ghana at international competitions.
 
A team from GUSA will pay two working visits to UG to inspect facilities prior to the Games to ensure they meet set standards.
