UG Athletes Interacts with Careers and Counselling Centre
The Sports Directorate in collaboration with the University of Ghana Careers and Counselling Center (UGCCC) has organised a one-day seminar for student athletes camping ahead of the 27th Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games in April 2022.

In a welcome address by a member of the Sports Directorate Management Committee, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah, he informed the athletes of the collaborative agreement between the Sports Directorate, Department of Physiotherapy, University Health Services, Department of Psychology, Department of Nutrition and Food Science and Careers and Counselling Centre. These Units are providing ancillary services needed to accompany sports to reflect the modern complexities and demands of sports, he noted.
Rev. Fr. Anthony Amponsah, a Clinical Psychologist at UGCCC advised the athletes to have in mind the goal they want to attain, the desire to work at it and repeatedly remind themselves of this dream. He added that the goal is not just to make it into the University of Ghana Team but to achieve laurels for themselves, the University and leave a legacy as well. Rev. Fr. Amponsah advised them to find a fine balance between what they do daily and have activities that will help them to reduce stress. He however indicated that these activities should not take them off their goal.

In his closing remarks, Rev. Fr. Anthony Amponsah on behalf of the Director of the University of Ghana Careers and Counselling Unit, pledged that a dedicated service at the Unit will be put in place for all student athletes who are to represent the University at the GUSA Games. Student athletes in need of counselling will receive professional counselling and guidance once they book appointment, he indicated.
The Vice General Sports Secretary, Miss Marceline Ashie, commended the Sports Directorate for organising the seminar. She stated that the lessons would go a long way to shape their thoughts and actions as athletes. She reiterated the need for the Student Sports Council to engage the Centre more in the future and encouraged his colleague athletes to seek professional advice from them than resorting to friends who may not be well equipped to handle their issues.
The 27th GUSA Games will be hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in 2022
