UG Male Basketball Team Secures Promotion to 2023 ABL
The University of Ghana Male Basketball Team secured automatic promotion to the Division One of the 2023 Accra Basketball League (ABL) after defeating Tusk of Adenta 2 out of 3 in the best of three semifinal of the Division Two Accra Basketball League.
The final also gives UG an opportunity to win for the second time the Division Two of the ABL after winning in 2019. UG will play the finals against Spintex Knights in a best of three contests.
Mr. Eric Agyapong Ankamah, Basketball Coach of the UG Team expressed his delight in securing promotion to Division One of the ABL.
"We have had setbacks in the past which derailed our promotion to D1. With what happened in Kenya in the FASU Games, we were determined to go the extra mile to rewrite history and secure promotion. I am happy the players have made us proud. For me, the hardwork and determination by them has been top notch. This attitude and discipline are what we need going into the Ghana Universities Sports Association Games next month in Kumasi. "
UG looks forward to successfully defending the gold won at the 26th GUSA Games when it hosted in 2020 to make it 4 times consecutively.
